House Democrats' opposition to the Build Back Better infrastructure package appears to be weakening and Senator Pelosi indicated that the House will vote on the bill this week.
- The progressive subsection of the party is holding out for a $3.5 trillion package with many additional liberal policies.
- Centrists and moderates remain convinced that the larger more progressive bill would never pass the Senate, and that Congress should approve the $1.2 trillion package that would provide immediate relief to transportation such as roads and bridges.
- However, caucus whip and Representative Ilhan Omar (D-Minn) is convinced that they have enough votes to veto the bill if it doesn’t include sufficient policies the House Dems are asking for.
FINSUM + Magnifi: There appears to be a lot of work to be done to get one of these packages through, but if it happens, it would likely be a great shot in the arm for infrastructure.
