FINSUM + Magnifi: Are Millennials Buying the Dip?

July 22, 2021

The stock markets have had some very small slumps but rebounded quickly in the last 12-months. The refusal to bow to the bears may be caused by a new generation of investors less seasoned in stock market cycles. Dan Egan, director of behavioral finance and robo-advisors, says there's “a lot of young people in their accumulation phase”. These new investors are bringing their bullish buys to the table, as four times this year the S&P 500 has rebounded after closing 3% below all-time highs. However, suffering from small companies and transportations firms could lead to a real collapse, as these are typically troubling signs for markets. But there are still wins for the bulls, such as the Cboe VVIX Index or the implied volatility of the VIX. This double volatility measure is trading at a premium which bodes well for the wider market historically.
